1st test flight of my EXI 450 after rebuild

18 Oct

I had a pretty bad crash some months ago and couldn’t spare the money to rebuild it.  But I sold my old laptop and splurged on some parts and upgrades to get her flying again.  I replaced the head and and tail rotor assemblies with CNC metal ones.  I replaced the bent aluminum tail boom with a black carbon fiber one, and the stabilizer wings with silver carbon fiber ones.  I also replaced all of the servos, which were cheap plastic gear analog ones, with some metal gear digital ones.  Since my boom brace, which attaches to the horizontal stabilizer wing, was stripped out plastic, I upgraded to a CNC metal one, which came with matching CNC aluminum strut connectors, and carbon fiber boom brace struts.  Since the helie was then looking pretty sweet, I decided to paint the canopy as well.  It is gloss black for now, and I’ll probably do some further customization later.  I also bought a new gyro for it as well, but it is on backorder.  Stay tunded for video after that gets installed.  For now, here is the video of the 1st test flight after assembly.  It flew really stable, witch exception of the tail not staying put, due to the bad gyro.  It mostly just kept turning the heli to the right and I kept having to correct that.  Pretty much all other motions you see are just me getting a feel for the new controls.  It is very precise and feels so smooth!  I’m a really happy camper! By the way, the video is in HD (720p, down-converted from 1080i), so if your PC can hang, click HD and go full screen.

Audi A4 commercial that lead to my purchase.

14 Oct

This is the commercial that cought my attention. Not because of what it was saying about being better than BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus, but because it looked so cool, and gave the impression that design was a huge consideration for this car. After test driving the other cars in reference, this one lived up to the hype, and I bought one.

Amelie got DRUMS for her 7th B’day!

02 Oct

Her Uncle Dave got her a very nice little drum set for her birthday, and Papa spent a couple hours putting it together. I say little, only because it doesn’t have a lot of pieces, but it is a “normal” size set, not a kid sized one. Anyway, here it is:
