Hey Nick, thanks for the comment! My dad only had a sister. But that doesn't mean we aren't family! Seems I'm related in some way to half of Ville Platte. ;-)

Hey Shawn,

My grandfather on my mom's side was Harry Burke Veillon, originally of Ville Platte, LA, and later moved to Orange, TX. I had my SNPs sequenced from 23andMe and discovered I have 3rd cousin Fontenots, which is how I found your website (Beth's post). I wonder if Harry and John--your dad--were brothers, which would make Harry your uncle and make us 1st cousins, once removed. Would love to chat a bit more...I am in Palo Alto, CA.

Best,
Nick

Hi Beth,
I don't know a whole lot about my ancestry in terms of many names of distant relatives and areas outside of New Orleans, Ville Platte, Lafayette, and Shreveport. My father, John Burke Veillon was from Ville Platte, and there the name Veillon is not uncommon., and Fontenot I believe is part of our gene pool, as well as Fusilier [de la Claire], which was my grandmother's family. Ville Platte would be a good place to visit, and ask some of the old shop owners. They love to talk about this stuff, and that kind of information is passed down pretty well. It is a small town where everyone knows everyone.

Are you the Beth Veillon Lang that lives in Colorado? I guess our family really spread out across the country... and even outside of it. I tried to move to France a long time ago, and I'd be other did too, and some successfully. Being from New Orleans, I felt very at home in Paris.

Hello! I was searching on the internet for information regarding my Veillon ancestors and came across your blog. My father was Regile Perry Veillon II and was born in Eunice in 1937. He passed away in 1990. His mother was Lillian Fontenot of Eunice, also deceased. His father was Regile Perry Veillon I who passed away in 1954 (I think). There is very little information on this of our paternal ancestors. We do not believe these Veillons were from the Eunice area. Just wondering if you have any information, as Veillon is not that common of a name. Thank you and nice blog! Beth Veillon Lang
